Death Sentence for Drug Trafficker Caught with 489,000 Captagon Pills in Baghdad

The Central Criminal Court in Baghdad on Wednesday sentenced a drug trafficker to death after convicting him of trafficking in narcotic substances.

According to the Supreme Judicial Council, the defendant was found in possession of approximately 85 kilograms of narcotics, including 489,000 Captagon pills. The drugs had reportedly been brought into the country using a hot-air balloon equipped with GPS technology, allegedly for trafficking and distribution among users.

The court issued the sentence under Article 27/First of Iraq’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017, in conjunction with Articles 47, 48 and 49 of the Penal Code.
