Body of Water Department Director Found in Diyala as Two Officers Arrested Over Smuggled Drugs

The body of Abbas Jawad Akkash, director of the Water Department in Abu Saida district, Diyala Province, was found with gunshot wounds inside a farm in the northeastern part of the province.

Initial indications led police to classify the incident as criminal, while the victim’s family began filing a complaint against several suspected individuals. The circumstances surrounding the killing and the parties involved remain under investigation.

In a separate incident, the National Security Service arrested two officers who were traveling in a civilian vehicle carrying smuggled and uninspected medicines on one of the province’s roads.

The seized drugs were reportedly among substances used as psychotropic medications and are prohibited from being traded through pharmacies. The two officers were transferred to a security center for questioning and further legal procedures.
