Barzani and EU Ambassador Discuss Iraq, Kurdistan and Regional Developments

Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani received EU Ambassador to Iraq Clemens Semtner in Pirmam on Sunday, in the presence of Stefan Wendt, the newly appointed head of the EU office in Erbil.

The meeting addressed a number of political and security issues. The EU ambassador congratulated Barzani on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and offered condolences to the families of victims of recent missile and drone attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region.

Semtner stressed that the stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq remains a key concern for the European Union amid the ongoing challenges and tensions across the region.

The two sides also exchanged views on developments in Iraq and the country’s next phase, as well as the latest situation in Syria, developments in Sinjar and the factors hindering implementation of the Sinjar Agreement.
