Araghchi: Oman Meeting to Discuss New Maritime Route in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that a meeting in Oman on Monday will focus on details of a proposed new maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz, with Iraq and Gulf countries expected to take part.

Araghchi said Iran would present details of its agreement with Oman, including maps of the proposed route and arrangements for navigation and the movement of vessels.

He stressed that the agreement with Muscat does not amount to a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Tehran continues to link a complete reopening to the United States returning to its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum.

The meeting comes as regional consultations continue over navigation arrangements in the strategic waterway, with efforts underway to establish temporary mechanisms allowing maritime traffic while reducing tensions in one of the world’s key energy and trade routes.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein confirmed on Saturday that an Iraqi delegation would participate in the meeting in Oman.
