Algeria Cuts Diplomatic Ties with UAE Amid Escalating Tensions

The Algerian government announced today that it is severing diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, saying the decision was taken after all efforts to preserve bilateral ties had been exhausted.

In a statement, Algeria’s Foreign Ministry said the move followed what it described as an escalation in “provocative and hostile” actions by the UAE. It said Algeria had exercised considerable restraint and repeatedly sought to warn Abu Dhabi about the potential consequences of what it characterized as unjustified conduct.

The ministry added that the continuation of those actions had pushed relations between the two countries to a point where they could no longer be considered acceptable or sustainable. It stressed that all available avenues for maintaining bilateral relations had been exhausted before the decision was taken.

The announcement comes amid growing political tensions between Algiers and Abu Dhabi. In late July, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune sharply criticized an unnamed Arab state, accusing it of contributing to bloodshed wherever it became involved and highlighting Algeria’s alignment with Egypt and Saudi Arabia on a number of regional issues.
