Al-Zaidi stresses need to address root causes of displacement and strengthen international cooperation

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi stressed the importance of addressing the causes of displacement and asylum, while strengthening international and regional coordination to ensure the protection of refugees’ and displaced persons’ rights in accordance with international law.

Al-Zaidi made the remarks during a meeting in New York with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih, emphasizing Iraq’s strong focus on the humanitarian dimension of the issue. He also reaffirmed Baghdad’s commitment to continued cooperation with the UNHCR and relevant international organizations to support refugees and displaced people, improve their living conditions, and contribute to restoring stability in affected areas.
