Al-Sadr: We Await the Withdrawal of US Forces from Iraq with Joy

Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr said he was looking forward with great joy to the scheduled withdrawal of US forces and international coalition troops from Iraq on September 30, calling on Washington to comply with the national Iraqi decision.

In a post on X, al-Sadr said the withdrawal would serve the interests of Iraq and the wider world, while expressing hope that it would not pave the way for further foreign interference in Iraq’s internal affairs or undermine the country’s sovereignty and independence.

He warned neighboring and non-neighboring countries against interfering in Iraq’s domestic affairs, stressing his firm opposition to any such intervention, regardless of its source.

Al-Sadr also emphasized the ability of Iraq’s security forces to protect the country, urging that security decisions remain exclusively under the authority of the central government and remain free from sectarian or ethnic conflicts.

He added that the withdrawal date could mark the beginning of a new phase of prosperity for Iraq and an end to corruption, injustice, occupation, and terrorism, reaffirming his opposition to what he described as the “trinity” of occupation, terrorism, and corruption
