Al-Halbousi Praises Turkish Peace Process, Reaffirms Baghdad's Push to Disarm Factions

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi commended Turkey's ongoing peace efforts on Tuesday, highlighting the Turkish parliament's role in advancing the process. Speaking from Ankara, he reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to strictly limiting firearms to state authority.

His remarks came during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Numan Kurtulmuş, as part of an official visit to the Turkish capital.

Al-Halbousi stated that Turkey's steps toward achieving a "Terror-Free Turkey" serve as a vital development for both Ankara and neighboring nations. He specifically noted legislative actions concerning the dissolution and disarmament of the PKK.

Addressing Iraq's domestic policy, Al-Halbousi highlighted concrete steps taken to enforce state control over weapons and protect national sovereignty. He added that Iraqi political factions fully back measures aimed at eliminating illegal armed presence and terrorism, describing it as essential for regional stability.

In response, Turkish Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş expressed hope that the peace initiative would positively impact the broader region and help Iraq successfully eliminate terrorist threats.
