After More Than a Decade of Planning, George Lucas Museum Opens in Los Angele

The George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art officially opened its doors in Los Angeles on September 22, following more than a decade of planning, construction and anticipation from art and film enthusiasts around the world.

The museum features more than 30 galleries, a dedicated sculpture garden and approximately 13 acres of expansive green space, as well as a free research library available to visitors.

George Lucas and Mellody Hobson transformed a former asphalt parking lot in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park into a major cultural institution designed to broaden traditional ideas about what can be displayed and celebrated on a museum gallery wall.
