90kg of Hashish Seized in Iraqi Territorial Waters, Three Foreign Suspects Arrested
Iraq’s General Directorate for Narcotics Affairs at the Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle 90 kilograms of hashish in Iraqi territorial waters and arrested three foreign suspects.
In a statement, the directorate said the operation was carried out offshore in coordination with the Naval Forces Command and the Military Intelligence Directorate, with the participation of specialized investigation units, intelligence operations teams and the directorate’s technical department.
It explained that the operation was launched after intelligence received from a neighboring country was analyzed, verified and cross-checked. Following a full day of surveillance and monitoring, security forces identified the suspects’ boat, tracked its route and moved to arrest those on board.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 90 kilograms of hashish and the arrest of three foreign suspects, while intelligence and field efforts remain underway to locate a fourth suspect who fled the scene and bring him before the courts
