4.3-Magnitude Earthquake Recorded East of Sulaymaniyah
Iraq’s Meteorological Authority recorded a 4.3-magnitude earthquake east of Sulaymaniyah on Monday.
Ali Abdul Khaliq, director of the authority’s Seismic Monitoring Department, said the earthquake was located using data from the national seismic monitoring network and occurred at a natural depth.
He added that the tremor was accurately detected by the authority’s seismic stations, with no reports of casualties or material damage so far.
Abdul Khaliq noted that northern and eastern border areas of Iraq experience occasional light to moderate earthquakes due to their proximity to active seismic belts. He confirmed that the authority continues to monitor seismic activity around the clock
